Granddaughter of the First Hokage and the grandniece of the Second Hokage, Tsunade is one of the famed Legendary Sannins, a special title given to her along with her former teammates Orochimaru and Jiraiya for their exemplary and impressive ninja skills.
During the Great Ninja Wars, everyone whom she loved dearly in her life like her brother Nawaki and boyfriend Dan whom both had dreamed of becoming Hokage died. With her heart and spirit broken, Tsunade left Konoha with Dan’s niece, Shizune, taking her in as her apprentice.
Later Tsunade is approached by Jiraiya and Naruto with the offering of becoming the next Hokage. Though she initally declines the offer, she accepts the title of Fifth Hokage after Naruto influence her that the title her loved ones so dearly desired is something to be valued.
After becoming the Godaime, Tsunade accepts Haruno Sakura as her next apprentice and since then, Tsunade outlook on life changed and believe that Naruto will one day become a great Hokage.
In battle, Tsunade’s trademark ability is her inhuman strength, which is derived from her exceptional chakra control. By storing chakra and releasing it at the point of contact, she is capable of smashing boulders with her bare hands and will kill anyone with “one good hit”.
In addition, with her ability to to heal the most severe wounds that others would consider impossible, Tsunade is also highly respected as an exceptional and talented Medical-nin. Using her excellent chakra control and her medical abilities, Tsunade has created a form of regeneration “Creation Rebirth” that will allow her to heal any and all damage to her body almost instantaneously in battle. While “Creation Rebirth” is an extremely powerful healing technique, the rapid regeneration of cells cuts down on her lifespan, making it a technique to only be used in desperate situations.
Also, like Orochimaru and Jiraiya, Tsunade has the summoning jutsu ability. She can summon her loyal giant slug, Katsuyu which is able to spit acid and perform a number of jutsu that Tsunade cannot.
Besides being the Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village, Tsunade is also known to be quite vain, using her Transformation Technique to appear young even though she is already in her fifties. Naruto likes to call her Granny Tsunade.
Tsunade is also addicted to gambling and being a compulsive gambler who always loses in gambling, she has been nicknamed as “The Legendary Sucker”.
